Northern tip to south-east

Where the resorts sit on Unguja

The resorts run from the northern tip down the east coast to Paje and Jambiani, so choose your coast first. The airport is about 5 km south of Zanzibar City7, so check how far your resort is from it.

Zuri: 50 km from the airport8

  • Nungwi: The Royal Zanzibar Beach Resort is in Nungwi, a resort town on the northern tip of the island7. More in the Nungwi area overview.
  • Kendwa: Zuri Zanzibar is 50 km from the airport8, and the resort says Kendwa beach has safe swimming all year9. The Mnemba boat trip and dolphin snorkel from Kendwa starts here; see the Kendwa area guide.
  • North-west coast: Sea Cliff Resort & Spa sits at Mangapwani, twenty-five minutes from Stone Town10.
  • North-east coast: Meliá Zanzibar is in Kiwengwa, 45 km from Zanzibar Town11. The Mora is on Muyuni Beach in Matemwe12.
  • South-east coast: Sea Side Resort Zanzibar is in Paje, a village known for kiteboarding7. Michamvi Sunset Bay Resort is on Chwaka Bay, and The Loop Beach Resort is in Jambiani, a fishing village that stretches along the beach7. The Paje beach guide covers this stretch.

  • Divers: Zuri’s on-site Wimbi Water Sports Centre offers scuba diving, including PADI courses9.
  • Golfers: Sea Cliff says it has the only golf course on Zanzibar10.

  • Per person or per room: Safari.com quotes The Royal Zanzibar per person sharing, per night14, while booking sites quote the room.
  • Rate expiry: Safari.com’s Royal Zanzibar rates are valid until 31 October 202614 (checked October 2026), so recheck after that.
  • Packages: Travel Weekly reports that TUI’s all-inclusive Zanzibar packages with its new flights start from £1,615 per person for 7 nights17. The direct flights from London Gatwick begin on 3 November 202718. Compare them with other Zanzibar holiday packages and tours.

For a beach holiday the basics are there: the islands are warm all year, Unguja has sandy beaches with fringing coral reefs, and Stone Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
